Quels événements culturels et historiques sont les plus marquants pour vous et pourquoi?

    Je pense que l’événement historique le plus marquant pour les Etats-Unis est la Guerre d’Indépendance. La Guerre d’Indépendance a changé le type de gouvernement. Avant la Guerre, les monarchies étaient populaires mais la Guerre amener la démocratie et le République à la position du type la plus populaire. Je ne peux pas imaginer ce que le monde serait sans cette guerre. Peut-être l’Angleterre serait encore un empire. Peut-être la France n’aurait pas sa révolution. Peut-être la plupart de pays dans le monde serait monarchies.

    Another important facet of the revolutionary war was that it suddenly took the wind out of countries that relied solely on military might to keep it’s dissidents in check. Great Britain had the most formidable military in the world at the time and yet it was beat by a union of colonies that had no organized military. Why? Because the vast majority of Americans united under the cause of liberty. Their firm belief in preserving those “certain inalienable rights” made them fight and conquer the British. In a sense, you could say that belief triumphed over force.

    This landmark changed a lot of aspects for modern governments (like Hitler’s and Mao Zedong’s) because controlling ideas became more important than brute force.

    Comme James, je pense que l’événement le plus important pour les Américains est la Guerre d’Independence. Touts les pays célèbrent le jour où ils gagnent leur indépendance. Sans ce jour, Les États-Unis n’existeraient pas. Et l’événement représente l’esprit des Americains – ses détermination et ses cœurs.
    I also think that Thanksgiving is important to Americans. It’s true that it’s not as popular as Christmas or New Years, but it is the only holiday unique to America. Thanksgiving is a great reason to spend time with your family and appreciate everything you have. I usually spend this holiday at a family reunion in Tennessee.

    je pense que l'événement culturel et historique qui est le plus marquant pour moi est le jour d'indépendence. je pense que ce jour est important parce qu'il dénote les libertés et les valeaurs qui sont plus importantes pour les États-Unis. en général, le jour d'indépendence, comme beaucoup de jours fériés, est un peu exagéré, mais la signification du jour est encore clair du premier jour d'indépendece.
    many people currently see the fourth of july as just a day to cook hotdogs and hamburgers and set off fireworks. sure, it's fun to set off fireworks and have cookouts on the fourth, but to me that's not all the holiday is about. the fourth of july is a day to celebrate our country's independence, the history of our nation's past, our country's future and the members of our armed forces. being able to set off fireworks and dress head to toe in red, white, and blue is just an added perk to the day.

    La défaite de l’empire romain est marquante dans l’histoire du monde. Après que cet empire a été détruit, un tas de pays sont nés. L’Europe et la région à côté de la mer méditerranée sont devenues libres pour créer les nations séparées. Un autre événement qui est important pour le monde est la création de la plastique en 1855. Nos vies seraient entièrement différentes sans plastique, et on la voit partout.

    Electronics, medical equipment, packaging, and more are based upon the plastic industry. If you look around, it would be difficult not to see a product that does not contain a form of plastic incorporated into its makeup. The historic fall of the Roman Empire contrasts with the industrial production of plastic, yet both events hold great weight in history.

    Je pense que la tragédie de 9/11 a affecté ma vie personnellement, donc c’est l’éventement plus marquant pour moi. Ma famille était très impliquée avec le World Trade Center. Mon grand-père a travaillé là-bas comme avocat quand il a habité à New York pendant trente années. Son fils, mon oncle Neil, a travaille là pour Merrill Lynch aussi quand l’avion est entrée les bâtiments en collision. Je n’était pas sur s’il était mort ou pas, donc j’ai peur de l’éventement parce qu’il a trois enfants.

    Fortunately, he had to work in Princeton, NJ on September 11, so he was not in New York for the attacks. For me, the time after 9/11 was very strange because I had just been in World Trade Center A in August, so I could remember every detail of the visit. In terms of lasting significance, obviously President Bush reacted with the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan and in Iraq and our lives will never be the same because of it. I guess the true impact of 9/11 will be seen throughout our lives, but I am definitely feeling the effects now.

    Moi-même, je crois que l’événement le plus marquant dans ma vie était le 11 Septembre, quand les terroristes ont attaqué le Pentagon et le “World Trade Center” en utilisant des avions. Je me souviens exactement où j’étais…c’était juste avant prendre ma photo pour l’annuaire. Ce n’était pas une belle photo !!

    This event might not be the most important in America’s history, but it has left the biggest impression on me. Afterwards, it seemed as if everyone was united against a common front, but now that is not so. Life in America has changed greatly, what with war and security issues, but not too much for the worse.

    Je ne suis pas personnellement impliquée dans les événements culturels ou historiques, mais je crois que la guerre civile des Etats-Unis était très importante pour quelques raisons. D’abord, cette guerre a émancipé les esclaves. Cet événement a changé complètement l’économie des Etats-Unis. Quand Abraham Lincoln a fait la déclaration d’émancipation, il a essentiellement dit que la fondation de l’économie peut partir, s’elle veut. Et, avec la guerre elle-même, l’économie du sud était complètement détruite. La reconstruction était très difficile pour le sud des Etats-Unis, parce que c’était leur terrain où la guerre était battue, alors c’était leur terrain qui était détruit.

    At the same time, there is the fact that the Emancipation Proclamation was mostly just a very cleverly constructed ploy by Lincoln to get the abolitionists to join and fight. When the Proclamation was issued, many of the moral abolitionists wouldn't join and fight for the North because Lincoln wasn't doing anything about freeing the slaves. In reality, the American Civil War was not a matter of slavery, it was a matter of politics. Once Lincoln freed the slaves (most of whom had been freed already), the moral abolitionists joined the army, swelling its ranks in such a way that the North was able to triumph. This is not to say that the Emancipation Proclamation was not a good thing- it definitely was. Slavery was a horrible idea in the first place, and it needed to be stopped. All I'm saying is that Lincoln had some serious ulterior motives... He was a smart man... conniving, but smart.

    Je pense que l'explosion des bombes atomiques de les États-Unis pendant la deuxième guerre du monde est une des événements historiques le plus marquantes de l'histoire de notre pays. Cette événement à changé le monde et la menace d'un autre guerre du monde atomique est toujours présent. Maintenant, l'idée de "la troisième guerre du monde" n'est pas un réve. C'est un possibilité.

    Especially after 9/11, and Bush's involvement in Middle Eastern countries thought to be building nuclear weapons, the threat of an atomic war is now even more present than it was at the height of the Cold War. Once one countries fires their warheads, no one else will hesitate. I doubt Einstein foresaw the implications of his research, and I doubt Truman considered the future consequences of his attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those events marked a time in history where an event was so decisive and world-changing that it is impossible to undo, and we will now never be free of the threat of atomic war.

    In my opinion, the Civil War was one of our nation’s most important events. When it ended, America began to grow and progress at an incredible pace. Although the era of Reconstruction is often thought of as a complete failure, it opened the door for America to expand westward, develop cities, and industrialize. Groups of people commonly exploited and discriminated against (blacks, immigrants, women, children) began protesting for equal rights and fair treatment, marking the beginning of a quest for America to be a real democracy. That is, a nation of ALL the people, by ALL the people, and for ALL the people.
    Bien sûr, un autre jour que je pense est important est le jour d’indépendance. C’est un jour pour célébrer quand nous sommes devenues un pays réel, séparé des Anglais. Encore aujourd’hui, c’est une grande fête, et un temps quand tous les Américains peuvent réaliser que notre pays, notre gouvernement, et nos soldats méritent notre respect. Même si tu n’aime pas le président ou la guerre en Iraq, ou si tu es libéral ou tu es conservatif, tu peux venir ensemble avec les autres Américains et célébrer. C’est mon jour férié favori, parce que je suis très fière d’être une Américaine, et j’aime bien mon pays.

    Je pense que les gares de les vingt ânées dernières, “Desert Storm” et “Iraqi Freedom” sont les éventements plus marque de notre vie. Ils ont été sujets de beaucoup de désaccord entre les États-Unis et France. Ils ont fait les deux cultures devient très critique et incrédule de l’autre. However, there have been several great things that have brought and kept our countries together, like NATO and the United Nations. We may not always agree with each other, but if one country gets in trouble, the other helps them out, and that kind of relationship is a big accomplishment in the world we live in.

    I think that the First and the Second World War are very importants for French. Millions peoples and soldiers died in these wars. The situation was very difficult for more french families. Wifes saw their husbands go to the war and not come back. Many childs became orphans in this period. For the Second War, the Normandy landings with american and british people write the end of war.

    Je pense que sur l'aspect culturel c'est la fête de la musique qui l'emporte. En effet, elle dure déjà depuis plus de 20 ans, et c'est internationalisée. En effet, en 2006 c'était par exemple l'Australie qui faisait sa grande entrée dans la fête de la musique !!! Le 21 Juin tout ceux qui aiment le musique se retrouvent dans les rues des villes pour partager cette passion. Tout les styles de musique sont les bienvenus, c'est d'ailleurs pour ca que cette fête a été crée. La fête se termine très tôt le lendemain matin. C'est une chose à vivre au moins une fois dans sa vie...

    I think that the World War II was one of the most important events in our world. A lot of atrocities have been committed during the war and a lot of people died… War was very bloody and what amazed me the most were the poor living conditions of the soldiers. They couldn’t eat how they wanted during the war. They were forced to lie to their family by sending them letters in which they told them everything went good. I think this war was very important because just after the allies’ victory, all the people remembered that we don’t have to do the same mistakes again. We called the First World War “la der des der”, but it wasn’t… So I hope there won’t be a third world war.

    Ensuite, j’aimerais parler du tsunami qui a frappé l’Asie en décembre 2004. Ce tsunami a tué plus de 225 000 personnes… Cet évènement m’a beaucoup marqué, car après la catastrophe, on a vu que beaucoup de nations étaient solidaires. Ces nations ont aidé l’Asie du Sud-Est à se reconstruire, même si ce travail n’est pas encore terminé. Il y a encore beaucoup de choses à reconstruire.

    I would say that an important event that I lived was september the eleventh.At first because it has been a dramatic event thanks to the number of american deaths. Then, more than this deaths, it is quite a symbol that has been destructed by this terrorist attack. I remember horrible images of people that threw themselves into space from the twin towers because of fire.

    Un autre évènement marquant serait pour ma part le drame vécu par les gens vivant en Asie du sud-est lors du tsunami d'il y a 2ans.
    Cette catastrophe revêt plusieurs caractéristiques dramatiques: tout d'abord d'un point de vue des victimes, ensuite par les ravages occasionnés dans toute une partie de la Thailande.
    Et enfin la catastrophe humanitaire car les problèmes ne sont toujours pas finis d'etre résolus sachant que ces pays peinent à se reconstruire et que cet évènement qui a jouit d'une surexposition médiathique, subit désormais d'une sousexposition médiathique.

    I think the most historical event for France is the french revolution in 1789. It was the first time french people can choose the governement and try to install a democracy. Now we are a president elect by us and we can choose laws. So if the french revolution didnt succed maybe we will be always with a monarchy and a king.

    A mon avis l'événement qui restera la plus important dans l'histoire des Etats-Unis est le 11 septembre. C'est la première fois que les Etats-Unis ont été vraiment attaqué sur leur propre sol et cela a complétement changé la politique étrangère des Etats-Unis. Sans le 11 septembre les conflits en Afghanistan ou en Irak aurait pu être évité ainsi que la stigmatisation de l'affrontement entre islamiste et américains.

    Yes, that's sure. the revolutionary war in our both country is the most important historical event, in my opinion. But the World War one and Two are also very important event. In fact, the revolutionary war has changed our country whereas the world war has changed the world!

    Aujourd'hui, Le monde est encore affecté par ces guerres. La plupart des gens ne peuvent imaginer que leur pays reparte en guerre. Organisation des Nations Unis est un fruit de cet évènement, elle tente de controler les conflits pour empêcher ce qui a pu arriver dans le passé.

    In my opinion, World War II is the most dreadful event we've ever known. It's very important in our history, because the whole world has changed during this war. Europe was destroyed, and after the war we had to rebuild everything : our countries, our societies... WWII has let a lot of aftermathes in our society.

    Ce qu'on a découvert dans les camps de concentration est horrible et, aujourd'hui, on ne permettrait pas que cela arrive de nouveau en Europe. Pour éviter une autre guerre, des organisations ont été créées, et les pays forment partie d'unions, comme l'Union Européenne.

    In my opinion, the first and the second World War was the two most important events..This two wars involved all the nations and was very deadly, this entailed some fairly major changes in the European scene.

    J'aimerais aussi parler du tsunami qui a touché la Thaïlande faisant de nombreuses victimes. Depuis quelques années les catastrophes naturelles se multiplies Beaucoup de pays ont été touchés. L'ampleur des dégâts varie, mais ils sont souvent très importants.
