Furthermore, many public schools need more ways for kids to become active and exercise. It is mandated that all students have to have a P.E. course each year and at least one in high school, but that is not enough.
However, I don't think that all of the blame of childhood obesity should be placed on public schools. There are many factors that can be attributed to this. Parents need to be more aware of what their kids are eating and be sure to make dinner time family time so that food isn't consumed in front of the television or while children are playing video games. Parents need to have more of an initiative to prepare better meals for the kids while they are at home rather than giving them fast-food or pre-packaged goods all of the time. Candy consumption should be limited.
Finally, parents need to understand that some children eat food as a means to pacify problems and comfort themselves. This begins when children are infants. The parents need to take responsibility of their kids by nurturing them with love and attention rather than stuffing their mouths with food.

Because of these foods, children are exposed to more saturated and trans fats as well as ridiculously large portion sizes. Also, due to cuts in public education funding children often no longer take physical education classes in school. Thus, children are more sedentary and are eating unhealthily. Obviously, this leads to increased rates of childhood obesity.

Talking about obesity is not at all easy. We all know that children eat more and more candies and fast foods. In every university restaurant you can eat everyday Pizza, French fries and other calorific food. Everywhere you can buy drinks and sweets in distributors. In NYC you have a fastfood at every corner. How can we fight against obesity with that!

Hello everybody,
I think that public schools won't should encourage chidhood obesity. The parent's child are the best to know how to educate your chidren. Their children should known how to look after themselves. It's necessary for them to know it.

The parents don’t always do a good job of feeding their children, though, which is why the schools started to provide lunches. Often young children will come to school without eating breakfast, for example, so the schools now must provide breakfast before school starts so that the children aren’t hungry all day. Here’s my brilliant idea! Let’s make the parents perfect, loving people who will take care of their children and provide them with both healthy and fun food so that the schools don’t have to bother with this issue and can just teach the children!

Our health classes are also not taken seriously. When children could be taught to eat better things and to lead a healthy life style, they are let down by one of the only institutions that could potentially make all of the difference.

Public schools encourage childhood obesity. Both my middle school and high school had vending machines with soda and candy. Like Vincent said, everyone seemed to always be carrying around a bag of Skittles.

The foods are healthier than before, with less sodium, and less fat - but not fewer calories. There are children who's only full meal is at school, so they need to get the calories there. Children who are from low-income families, who recieve free or reduced-cost lunch are required to get a balanced meal each time.

However in front of the private and public school, people sale some food that are not healthy such are candies and more. That is why kids eat whatever outside of the meal they get at home. For that, the school doesn’t do anything to control what the kids eat outside of the school.
I think that the school should control what the kids buy at school because some food at school are not clean or healthy and that can get the kids sick or obese.

In addition, there is a pervasive false sense of "forbidden-ness" associated with sweets, so that when children who might not have constant access to such foods are given the opportunity to partake, they gorge themselves, or otherwise sneak and consume more unhealthy food than they would if the sweets were not seen as so "off limits." There is a healthy balance that both our society and our schools are missing.

Personally I don’t think that public schools in France encourage childhood obesity. Indeed the menus aren’t generally prepared by cooks in the school but by companies like Sodhexo and each menu is checked by a dietetician. Finally it depends on companies. I know this well because my father works in the institutional catering. On the other hand that changes with the university restaurants.

In my opinion obesity is the first reason of death in America, France or England. During the 10 last years the percentage of overweight people increase dramatically in developped countries. At Utt we can suscribe to sport activities like gym or basketball, football.
I think that a balanced and varied food are helpful for health. At university we can eat "bio" food which maintain a good order in the human organism.

in france, to fight against obesity, the government decided to forbid food distributors in schools. i think it was a interessant idea but not the solution of the problem. we have to educate children about good and bad food. the idea is not to forbid candies, but to make understand children that they have to pay attention on what they eat.

During childhood, I think it is important for parents to have a control about the feed of their children : at school, cantine has generally a bad taste but we eat " balanced". So, on my mind,if a child becomes fat, it is his parents who have to look after him.

school food is cheap food, with a lot of fat in. And children are not obliged to take vegetables ( whiwh are ugly to eat) and otfen take french fries and pizza. Their taste are not as ugly as the vegetables.
Few times ago their were no food education.
